This document presents the theoretical framework and empirical foundations of the Nordic State Stability Model (NSSM), a conceptual simulation instrument for analysing the structural dynamics of high-trust Nordic welfare states under simultaneous interacting threat vectors. The model tracks fourteen state variables across three analytical dimensions — State Integrity, Productive Capacity, and Cohesive Legitimacy — and computes a composite State Integrity index. Seven tipping points with corresponding points of no return are monitored continuously. The model synthesises twelve research traditions spanning institutional theory, social capital research, behavioural genetics, evolutionary game theory, political psychology, and security studies. Its central analytical contribution is integrating four slow-variable substrates — social capital architecture, productive phenotype distribution, cultural transmission (CT), and integration score (INT) — into a stability framework that previously tracked only fast-moving institutional and economic variables, permitting the model to distinguish observable surface stability from the structural substrate that determines whether recovery is possible when surface indicators deteriorate. Analytical scope decisions are made explicitly and justified. Where empirical claims rest on theoretical calibration rather than directly measured parameters, this is stated.

1. The Central Analytical Problem: Surface Stability and Structural Erosion

Standard stability models treat trust and social cohesion as primary outcome variables. The World Values Survey, European Social Survey, and Edelman Trust Barometer provide reliable, validated measurements of both. The NSSM does not dispute their empirical validity — it questions their sufficiency as leading indicators. The structural variables that determine whether recovery is possible when a state comes under stress operate on generational timescales: they change slowly in both directions. Observable surface variables — trust, coherence, information environment quality — respond much faster. A state may therefore read stable on standard instruments while its structural substrate erodes quietly. Finland's GDP per capita has been broadly flat since 2007-08 while Trust and Coherence readings have remained high by international standards — illustrating the decoupling in practice.

The NSSM therefore treats Trust and Coherence as output variables — important symptoms of structural conditions, but downstream of the causal variables that determine long-run trajectories. This is the document's foundational analytical claim, and it has direct consequences for what belongs in a stability model and what does not.

1.1 The Three Analytical Dimensions and Their Weights

State Integrity (35%)

II, NP, SC_cap. The normative-institutional substrate. Determines whether state authority can be reliably exercised and cooperative norms enforced. Dominant dimension for long-run structural stability.

Productive Capacity (35%)

EV, EC, PD_score. The generative economic substrate. Determines the material base from which welfare states fund their social contract. EC is subject to a ceiling set by PD_score: institutional reform alone cannot raise output beyond the productive phenotype floor.

Cohesive Legitimacy (30%)

T, CC, IE. The perceived social contract. Most visible in standard instruments; most volatile; most misleading as a standalone indicator. Downstream of structural dimensions but capable of triggering fast instability.

On weight assignment: The 35/35/30 split is a modelling decision, not an empirical estimate. State Integrity and Productive Capacity are causally upstream of Cohesive Legitimacy and weighted equally because states fail both through normative collapse and through fiscal unsustainability. Cohesive Legitimacy receives slightly less weight because it is demonstrably downstream. An alternative 40/30/30 weighting is defensible. What cannot be defended is majority weight on Trust and Coherence given their downstream causal position.

3. Game-Theoretic Foundations: Why This Is a Cooperation Problem

The model's deepest analytical structure is game-theoretic, not merely sociological. Nordic welfare states face a compound cooperation problem operating simultaneously at three levels, each with different equilibrium dynamics and different vulnerability profiles.

Level 1: The civic cooperation game

Citizens must cooperate in the production of public goods — paying taxes, following rules, participating in civic life — even though defection is individually rational in any single interaction. This is a classic N-person public goods game. Fehr and Gächter (2002) demonstrate experimentally that this game has two stable equilibria: a cooperative equilibrium sustained by approximately 15–25% altruistic punishers who sanction free-riders at personal cost, and a defective equilibrium where free-riding dominates. The NP variable tracks the punisher proportion. The cooperative equilibrium is vulnerable to two distinct attacks: reducing the punisher count (IPS) or redirecting punisher energy away from defectors toward cooperators (Janteloven). Both attacks shift the system toward the defective equilibrium, but through different mechanisms and with different signatures — IPS fails loudly through rising visible defection; Janteloven fails quietly through declining productive output while surface cooperation metrics remain adequate.

Level 2: The institutional legitimacy game

Citizens must decide whether to cooperate with institutions — filing taxes honestly, accepting adjudicated outcomes, participating in formal processes — based on beliefs about whether institutions will reciprocate with impartial treatment. Rothstein (1998, 2011) models this as a signalling game: each institutional interaction either reinforces or undermines beliefs about impartiality. The asymmetry is fundamental to the model: positive signals update beliefs weakly (institutions are expected to be impartial); negative signals update beliefs strongly (impartiality violations are diagnostic). The SC_v cascade dynamics and the ×2.5 multiplier below SC_cap=48 encode this asymmetric Bayesian updating structure. Once beliefs about institutional impartiality fall below a threshold, the defective equilibrium becomes self-confirming: citizens who expect partiality behave accordingly, which induces rent-seeking and corruption that confirms their expectations.

Level 3: The entrepreneurial entry game

Potential producers must decide whether to enter the entrepreneurial role given uncertainty about returns and institutional support. This is a real-options problem with strongly asymmetric payoffs: upside is bounded by market size, downside is bounded by personal liability structure. Gauthier's (1986) constrained maximisation framework establishes that cooperative productive entry requires that the state's claim on productive surplus does not exceed what rational producers will accept as minimax relative concession. When the public sector claim — through taxation, regulatory compliance costs, and the implicit welfare trap that reduces the risk premium on productive activity — rises above this threshold, rational producers exit the game: they emigrate, seek rent-seeking employment, or simply do not enter. This is the formal basis for the EC ceiling imposed by PD_score and the welfare trap variable's suppression of EC. The Finnish state/entrepreneur ratio of approximately 8:1 (public sector employment to private entrepreneurial formation) has historically violated the Gauthier threshold, contributing to the chronic underperformance of EC relative to EV.

Why game theory requires the slow variables

The key analytical implication of the game-theoretic structure is that equilibrium shifts are not reversible on the same timescale as they occur. Moving from a cooperative to a defective equilibrium in the civic cooperation game is fast — it requires only that the punisher proportion fall below threshold, which can happen within years under sustained IPS or Janteloven pressure. Restoring the cooperative equilibrium requires rebuilding the punisher proportion through trust in institutions, which requires sustained positive institutional signalling over decades. This is North's (1990) informal institution insight translated into game-theoretic language: the equilibrium is easy to leave and hard to re-enter. The SC_cap slow variable and its asymmetric cascade dynamics encode this formally in the model.

4. Social Capital Architecture

4.1 Why Social Capital Belongs in a Stability Model

The causal chain runs: social capital → sustained productive cooperation among strangers at scale → economic output → fiscal capacity of welfare state → delivery on social contract → Cohesive Legitimacy. When SC_h erodes, civic norm enforcement loses capacity. When SC_v erodes, citizens rationally reduce anonymous cooperation. When NP falls below threshold, free-riding becomes individually rational for an expanding proportion. Fiscal contraction follows, threatening the welfare state's social contract, which reduces Cohesive Legitimacy. This chain makes social capital a stability variable, not merely a wellbeing or happiness variable.

4.2 The Three Layers

Horizontal social capital (SC_h): civic network density

Putnam (1993, 2000) established the density of horizontal associational networks as the primary mechanism for collective action independent of state authority. The model's Finnish calibration draws on Hyyppä and Mäki's programme of research on Swedish-speaking Finns: despite operating under identical formal institutions, taxation, and healthcare, Swedish-speaking Finns exhibit a longevity premium of approximately three to five years and substantially higher associational participation — differences surviving all standard socioeconomic controls. The residual explanatory variable is horizontal network density. This constitutes a quasi-natural experiment isolating SC_h from SC_v (vertical trust conditions are constant; horizontal density varies), providing one of the most compelling empirical demonstrations in the Nordic literature of SC_h's independent causal role. The SC_h enclave scenario operationalises this: high SC_h can sustain cooperative outcomes even when aggregate state indicators deteriorate.

Vertical social capital (SC_v): institutional impartiality

Rothstein (1998, 2011) demonstrates that generalised trust in Nordic societies is produced continuously by experienced institutional impartiality, not inherited culturally. The asymmetry Rothstein identifies — a single salient partiality demonstration destroys more SC_v than many positive encounters build — is the theoretical basis for the cascade multiplier in the model. The 24:1 ratio (max build +0.5/period; max collapse −12/period below SC_cap=48) reflects both this asymmetry and the self-reinforcing dynamics of trust collapse: declining SC_v makes cooperation individually more costly, which further reduces SC_v.

Trust radius: structural fragility from layer imbalance

Fukuyama's (1995) radius-of-trust concept and Uslaner's (2002) distinction between moralistic and strategic trust ground the TrustRadius index (SC_h / SC_v). Above 1.35, bonding outpaces bridging — the structural signature of polarising societies — and the model applies a CC penalty each period. This threshold is a calibration decision, not an empirical estimate; it should be treated as an assumption requiring sensitivity testing.

5. The Punisher Network: Magnitude and Direction

5.1 The Fehr-Gächter Foundation

Fehr and Gächter (2002) established that approximately 15–25% of participants functioning as altruistic punishers is sufficient to sustain cooperation in public goods games. De Waal (2003) grounds this in evolutionary biology. Herrmann, Thöni, and Gächter (2008), across sixteen societies, demonstrated antisocial punishment — sanctioning of cooperators by individuals objecting to upward social comparison — and showed this is more prevalent in societies with weaker civic norms. This provides the empirical bridge between the experimental game-theory literature and the Janteloven construct.

5.2 The IPS/Janteloven Distinction: Magnitude vs Direction

The model's most analytically novel contribution is distinguishing two mechanisms that both suppress productive equilibrium through different pathways. IPS (Ideological Punisher Suppression) reduces the count of active punishers — the NP magnitude. The cooperative equilibrium is threatened because defectors encounter fewer sanctioning interventions. IPS fails loudly: rising visible free-riding eventually triggers recognition and response. Janteloven attacks the direction of punisher energy, not its count. The Janteloven norm cluster — formalised in Sandemose (1933) as a diffuse Nordic social pressure — defines conspicuous achievement, public risk-assertion, and claimed expertise as the primary social deviations warranting sanction: precisely the behavioural signature of the productive phenotype. A high-Janteloven society may have abundant, active punisher energy directed at the wrong targets. It fails silently: surface cooperation metrics remain adequate while productive capacity hollows out.

The model captures this through NP_effective = NP × (1 − NP_target/200), which feeds the trust update rather than raw NP. A society with NP=60 and Janteloven=8 is functionally equivalent to NP=45 with Janteloven=2 in terms of trust maintenance — despite appearing healthier on the NP count alone. IPS fails through State Integrity collapse; Janteloven fails through Productive Capacity collapse. The State Integrity index reveals this divergence when it occurs.

6. Personality Distribution and the Productive Phenotype

6.1 Why Personality Distribution Appears in a State Stability Model

The causal chain is explicit: productive personality phenotypes (high Openness, moderate-low Agreeableness, internal referencing) → entrepreneurial function (Schumpeter's new combinations: new products, markets, institutional arrangements) → EC (entrepreneurship climate) → EV (economic vitality) → fiscal capacity of welfare state → sustainability of social contract → Cohesive Legitimacy. The EC ceiling formalises this: EC_ceiling = PD_score × 0.8 + 20. Even perfectly designed institutional environments cannot extract entrepreneurial output beyond the productive phenotype floor in the existing population.

6.2 Evidential Basis

Vukasović and Bratko's (2015) meta-analysis reports mean heritability estimates of approximately 0.40 for Big Five dimensions (Openness 0.41, Extraversion 0.36, Agreeableness 0.35, Conscientiousness 0.31), with shared environmental effects near zero. Personality distributions in populations change through generational selection processes — migration, differential reproduction, differential expression under different environmental conditions — not through incentive structures or education. Jokela, Elovainio, Kivimäki, and Keltikangas-Järvinen (2008), using a nine-year Finnish prospective cohort study (N=1,733), found that high sociability predicted migration to urban areas and longer migration distances. Camperio Ciani et al. (2007, 2011, 2013) documented island-mainland personality sorting in Italian populations and provided molecular genetic evidence via DRD4 polymorphisms. The model's extrapolation to national PD_score is a theoretically grounded inference, not a directly measured variable.

6.3 The Four-Type Distribution

PD_score indexes a four-type functional distribution. The typology adopts Schumpeter's (1942) entrepreneurial function analysis and the behavioural genetics trait cluster literature. The four-type structure is a modelling decision justified by parsimony: it captures the analytically important distinctions (producers who generate new value, executors who scale it, participators who sustain the cooperative substrate, free-riders who extract from it) without the measurement requirements of a continuous distribution. Proportions (producers 12-18%, executors 28-35%, participators 38-46%, free-riders 8-22%) are reasonable calibrations, not empirically precise estimates.

6.4 Historical Calibration: The 1991 Finnish Banking Crisis as a Structural Shock

The 1991 crisis shock applies PD_score −20 alongside EV−15, EC−12. The mechanism is structurally distinct from gradual recession suffering and encodes four documented causal pathways.

Finland deregulated its credit markets in the early 1980s without commensurate consumer education on liability structures. High domestic interest rates made foreign-currency borrowing cheaper, and unlimited personal guarantees on foreign-currency debt became standard practice. The Bank of Finland devalued the markka by approximately 12% in November 1991, then floated it on 8 September 1992, producing cumulative depreciation exceeding 30% (Kiander & Vartia, 2011). For entrepreneurs carrying this debt structure, the crisis was not gradual: it was an overnight multiplication of personal liability by more than 30% through a policy decision, applied to debts taken in good faith under conditions the state had itself created.

The four PD_score damage mechanisms are: (1) direct destruction of productive enterprises through unlimited personal legal exposure; (2) environmental suppression signal — sustained institutional hostility to productive risk-taking suppresses heritable trait expression for one to two cohort generations (Vukasović & Bratko, 2015); (3) migration sorting — high-extraversion Finns showed higher propensity to emigrate internationally (Silventoinen et al., 2008), and the crisis intensified emigration incentives for exactly this profile; (4) intergenerational suppression of entrepreneurial identity — Lindquist, Sol, and van Praag (2015) establish that parental entrepreneurship increases children's probability of becoming entrepreneurs by approximately 60%, with post-birth role modelling accounting for twice the effect of pre-birth genetics. The mirror image is direct: Mungai and Velamuri (2011) find that parental failure in self-employment decreases intergenerational transmission of entrepreneurship. The children of entrepreneurs destroyed in 1991-93 were adolescents at the developmental stage when occupational identity is formed. They are now in their late 40s and 50s — the generation that should be leading Finnish enterprise today.

Calibration note: The PD_score −20 is a modelling assumption encoding these four documented mechanisms, not a validated death count. The Finnish occupational mortality literature (Raittila et al., 2023) explicitly excludes the self-employed from its analytical sample and cannot confirm or refute concentrated entrepreneur mortality. The calibration rests on documented institutional causation and the intergenerational transmission mechanism — which is the most precisely evidenced of the four pathways.

7. Institutional Architecture: WT Variable Components

The Welfare/State Trap (WT) slider aggregates three structural EC suppressors, all of which reduce productive return to entrepreneurial activity relative to non-entrepreneurial alternatives and accelerate PD_score migration sorting.

Public sector size overhang. Barro (1990) established the inverted-U relationship between government spending and growth. Asimakopoulos and Karavias (2016), using panel data from 129 countries, estimate the optimal threshold for developed economies at approximately 17-18% of GDP (other estimates range to 30%). Finland at approximately 57-58% of GDP (OECD, 2025) is above any estimated optimum. The implied growth penalty of 1-2% annually is consistent with Finland's flat growth trajectory since 2007-08.

Capital ownership tax structure. Sweden abolished its inheritance and gift tax in December 2004 (Henrekson & Waldenström, 2016). An SSE working paper (2026) using difference-in-differences analysis across ~37,000 companies finds that firms with potential family successors showed 8 percentage points higher sales growth by 2007 compared to control firms. Finland retains inheritance taxation, contributing to a systematic ownership emigration dynamic — the pattern whereby Finnish high-growth companies transfer majority ownership to foreign investors at later funding rounds is a real and documented commercial phenomenon, though its precise causal attribution to tax structure alone is not quantifiable from existing research.

Labour market rigidity and the 2024 reform. The Orpo government's 2023-27 reforms eased dismissal thresholds, reduced consultation periods, and eliminated fixed-term contract justification requirements. The model encodes this as a dual-effect shock: EC+4, EV+2 from better productive job matching alongside NP−2, T−2 from perceived social contract erosion. The net stability effect is genuinely ambiguous — standard flexicurity theory requires that reduced protection be paired with adequate social insurance, which the Orpo package did not maintain — and the model presents it as such rather than assigning a single sign.

8. Cultural Transmission (CT) and Integration Score (INT): The Generational Slow Variables

Version 1.0 introduces two slow variables operating on generational timescales. Both implement North's (1990) argument that formal institutions are shells: they have legal validity but no functional substance without the informal normative infrastructure that causes people to comply with them not merely because they are legally required to but because they perceive them as legitimate expressions of a shared normative order. The shell can remain intact while the substance drains away, invisibly, over decades.

This produces what the model terms the discontinuity paradox of resilient states: precisely because high-trust, high-institution societies have strong formal structures, informal normative decay goes undetected for longer than in lower-trust societies. When the discontinuity arrives, it appears inexplicable because its generational preparation was not in the monitoring framework. Section 1's core claim — surface stability can mask structural erosion — applies here with particular force: CT and INT can decline for ten to fifteen periods before T and CC visibly respond.

8.1 CT — Cultural Transmission

CT is a composite of three analytically separable but institutionally interdependent components of transmissive capital (TC):

TCn directionality: TCn is not merely a quantity but has an orientation. Positive (CT>55): stewardship ethics actively transmitted; self-reinforcing. Neutral (CT 35–55): transmission attenuated but not counter-productive; recoverable through sustained intervention. Negative onset (CT 25–35): entitlement orientation begins displacing stewardship; welfare dependency perceived as normal; stochastic PD_score pressure (35% probability/period). Negative active (CT<25): a competing, coherent, dysfunctional value system is actively transmitted — state institutions perceived as extractive; productive engagement treated as deviant; defection modelled as adaptive. Not a vacuum to fill but a rival system to displace. NP−2 per period plus stochastic PD_score pressure (45%). The analytical significance: interventions effective in the neutral regime are systematically insufficient in the negative active regime — they are counter-programmes operating against active socialisation in the opposite direction.

8.2 INT — Integration Score (= 100 − Segregation Index)

The Nordic welfare state amplifier: In market systems, economic integration is a strong forcing mechanism — failure to integrate produces material deprivation. In comprehensive Nordic welfare states, material subsistence is guaranteed regardless of integration level. This is not an argument against welfare provision; it is an identification of a specific interaction effect: welfare extended to non-integrated populations without accompanying integration obligations structurally facilitates INT decay rather than correcting it. Sweden's 2000s–2010s experience is the empirical manifestation of this interaction effect at national scale.
Broken windows amplifier (Wilson & Kelling 1982): When INT<50 AND NP<40 simultaneously, a non-linear compounding dynamic activates: visible norm-enforcement absence signals to potential violators (enforcement absent) and to potential enforcers (effort is isolated and ineffective). Tipping points are threshold conditions beyond which self-reinforcing cascade dynamics engage, producing additional variable decay each period independent of threat vector settings. Two or more simultaneously active tipping points triggers the collapse condition. Points of no return (PNR) represent thresholds beyond which endogenous dynamics prevent recovery without an exogenous shock sufficient to shift the system's attractor basin. Historical precedents for PNR recovery include EU accession transfers, Marshall Plan-scale interventions, or geopolitical realignments that fundamentally reset institutional environments.

12. How to Use the Model: Analytical Experiments

Each period in the simulation represents approximately two to three years. SC_cap and PD_score are slow variables updating at generational timescale — changes in these variables require five to fifteen periods to become analytically visible. The State Integrity index (bold dashed line in the timeline) aggregates all three dimensions and is the primary stability indicator. Individual variable lines colour green/amber/red as they cross their own thresholds. Horizontal bands show the overall SI zone.

A — Surface stability vs structural erosion (core demonstration)
Load Finland 2024. Note SI=63 (warning zone) despite T=72, CC=66 (both reading healthy on standard instruments). Set WT=8, JL=7. Run 25 periods. Observe: T and CC remain relatively stable for the first eight to twelve periods while SI declines steadily as PD_score and SC_cap erode. The point at which T visibly falls is several periods after SI has already entered critical territory. This demonstrates the model's core claim: surface variables lag structural variables by years. The State Integrity index is the early warning signal; Trust is the belated alarm.
B — IPS vs Janteloven dissociation (direction vs magnitude)
Load Finland 2024. Save as baseline. Path 1: IPS=8, JL=2 — NP count collapses (State Integrity fails). Path 2: IPS=2, JL=8 — NP count maintained but EC suppressed and PD_score drifts (Productive Capacity fails). Path 3: both high — combined failure. Compare the SI dimension breakdown across the three paths: path 1 fails through State Integrity; path 2 fails through Productive Capacity. The SI composite shows similar terminal values but through structurally different pathways with different policy implications. This is the Janteloven/IPS distinction in operational form.

If SC_cap crosses below 48, the ×2.5 multiplier activates and collapse accelerates visibly in the SI trend. Compare with Resilient state under identical threats: the SI divergence over 15 periods quantifies the resilience premium of a well-buffered social capital stock. This demonstrates North's slow-variable asymmetry: the resilient state built its buffer over decades; the stressed state cannot rebuild it in simulation time.
D — The reform ceiling (PD_score constrains institutional optimism)
Load Finland 1991 crisis (PD_score=38). Apply Tax reform + shock. EC improves but is immediately capped at PD ceiling (38×0.8+20=50.4). Apply Jante reform + Welfare reform as well. Observe SI: each reform lifts one dimension, but Productive Capacity remains constrained until PD_score itself recovers through the slow-variable pathway — which takes fifteen to twenty periods. This demonstrates why institutional reform is necessary but insufficient: the PD_score ceiling constrains what any institutional improvement can achieve, and only time combined with a hospitable environment for the producer phenotype closes the gap.
E — Trust radius fragility (polarisation failure mode)
Load Polarised scenario (SC_h=74, SC_v=38, TrustRadius≈1.95). Trust radius alarm fires immediately and CC penalty applies each period despite adequate NP. Apply Bridging initiative shock and compare trajectory with non-intervention. The CC recovery from bridging is visible within three to five periods. This demonstrates the analytically important distinction: the society is not low-NP — punishers are active — but they are operating within groups rather than across them. The structural fix is bridging, not punisher-count restoration.
F — Finland vs Estonia: same substrate, different EC ceiling

PD_score is not directly measurable. No national survey instrument measures productive phenotype proportions. Proxies — entrepreneurship formation rates, patent density, emigration composition — are partial and confounded. All PD_score values are theoretically calibrated.
Janteloven has no validated cross-national measure. Requires empirical operationalisation through experimental economics, conformity surveys, or coded media analysis before it can be tested against data. The slider is a conceptual parameter set by informed judgement.
SC_h and SC_v are not routinely separated in survey instruments. Standard social capital instruments do not cleanly separate the two layers. Model calibration relies primarily on theoretical reasoning and the Hyyppä-Mäki enclave evidence.
Armey curve optimal point is contested. Optimal size estimates range widely (15-40% of GDP). Finland at 57-58% is clearly above any estimate; the specific growth penalty is not precisely quantifiable from existing methodology.
Sweden inheritance tax evidence is partially a working paper. The SSE 2026 study (working paper) uses sound methodology and is consistent with prior evidence. The Henrekson and Waldenström (2016) historical analysis remains the primary peer-reviewed reference.
Labour flexibility reform effects are unresolved. The Orpo reforms are too recent for peer-reviewed evidence. The dual-effect encoding (EC+4, EV+2, NP−2, T−2) is theoretically motivated, not empirically estimated.
The 1991 crisis entrepreneur mortality is not quantified at subgroup level. The Finnish occupational mortality literature explicitly excludes the self-employed from its analytical sample and cannot confirm or refute concentrated entrepreneur mortality. The PD_score −20 calibration is grounded in documented institutional causation and the intergenerational transmission evidence; it is not a validated death count.
CT and INT are not directly measurable through existing instruments. No standardised survey measures cultural transmission capacity or segregation at the institutional-completeness threshold. CT proxies — family business succession rates, cadastral division patterns, entrepreneurship intergenerational correlation, TFR by educational level — are partial and contextual. INT proxies — residential dissimilarity indices, language acquisition rates in second generation, labour market participation by integration cohort — are available for some Nordic countries but not in a form directly calibrating the model's thresholds. All CT and INT starting values are theoretically calibrated. The CT_n directionality thresholds (CT=35, CT=25) are analytically motivated, not empirically estimated.
All interaction coefficients are linearised. Real social systems exhibit non-linear dynamics, hysteresis, and path-dependence not capturable in a difference-equation architecture. Cascade multipliers are mechanical approximations.
Cultural substrate specificity. Calibrated for Nordic/North European contexts with Lutheran institutional heritage. Transfer to other cultural substrates requires systematic recalibration of thresholds and coefficients.
